Martha Stewart or Michael Jordan?
Martha Stewart or Michael Jordan? Who do you want coaching your basketball team? What qualifies someone to be your leader? Perhaps Martha Stewart has never missed a basketball game and perhaps she spends her free time studying the strategies of past wins and perhaps she even wears her favorite teams apparel to bed every night. Would you still pick Michael Jordan? Yes, me too! Why is this? Why do we crave the champion over the seemingly potential expert?
Why, because he’s lived it of course! His own sweaty palm has achieved the plays that we could only dream of! Ask yourself, what kind of Chiropractor and Chiropractic Assistants would you want to trust with your health and the health of your family? Would you want a team that makes their spines a priority or a team that settles for less than what they know is best? If you are asking your patients to do homecare/exercises/tractions ask yourself have you done yours? If you lead patients into lifetime care to maintain their great results, ask yourself if you are you maintaining yours? If the answer is no then ask yourself, “Do I feel congruent and ethically aligned with what I expect of my patients”?
The answers will be different for different practices depending on what aligns with you. Martha can still be an incredible basketball coach. You simply have to decide what feels aligned to you. If you are carrying guilt about lack of consistency with your own care and you are struggling to create consistent and lifetime patients then chances are you are a Michael Jordan living like a Martha Stuart. You get to choose every day what game you are playing and if it requires an apron or the jersey!
